Another Large LINK Deposit Hits Coinbase

A major Chainlink wallet moved 620,420 LINK to Coinbase on September 7, extending a run of exchange deposits that has now lasted three weeks, according to blockchain analytics account Onchain Lens.

The latest transfer was worth roughly $7.6 million when it was reported. In total, the same address has sent 2.41 million LINK to Coinbase over the past three weeks, an amount valued at nearly $26.04 million based on the figures shared by the analyst.

Onchain Lens linked the activity to the wallet 0xF5B007a6341AcC8CfEC581d8A1c5560bC19d9650. The address appears to have built its position through earlier withdrawals from Binance before shifting into repeated deposits to Coinbase, suggesting a move away from accumulation and toward exchange placement. Even so, onchain data does not prove that the tokens were sold.

  • Most recent deposit: 620,420 LINK, or about $7.6 million
  • Earlier deposits over the period: about 1.79 million LINK
  • Three-week total: 2.41 million LINK, or roughly $26.04 million
  • Approximate value per token in the latest transfer: $12.25
  • Average implied value across the full period: about $10.80

Those values reflect market pricing at the time each transfer was made, not a confirmed execution price. Blockchain records can show movement, but they cannot show whether the assets were sold, retained, or redirected elsewhere.

Why the Wallet’s Purpose Still Cannot Be Confirmed

Wallet activity on a blockchain reveals movement, not identity. The address may belong to a private investor, an institution, a trading desk, or even a custody service, and the “whale” label refers only to the size of the holdings.

Anyone can inspect the address history on Etherscan, although exchange labels rely on attribution methods that can change as analytics firms update their data. There is also no evidence connecting this wallet to Chainlink Labs, the Chainlink Foundation, or any known treasury linked to the project.

That distinction matters: the transfer should not be interpreted as Chainlink itself making a move.

What Exchange Deposits Usually Signal

Large deposits to an exchange often attract attention because they can come before selling, hedging, or collateral use. They may also increase the amount of token supply that is immediately available for trading on an exchange.

Still, a deposit alone is not proof of a sale. Several other explanations remain possible:

  • Internal custody reshuffling
  • Collateral for another position
  • Preparation for an over-the-counter deal
  • A transfer made ahead of a trade that has not happened yet

To confirm an actual sale, analysts would need more evidence, such as Coinbase wallet outflows, order-book activity, changes in exchange balances, or a statement from the wallet owner. None of that has appeared alongside the Onchain Lens report.

Even without a confirmed sale, transfers of this size can influence trader mood, since some market participants react to the expectation of added supply. Earlier coverage has also shown the opposite pattern, with large holders sometimes withdrawing substantial amounts of LINK from exchanges as balances fall.

LINK Trades Higher While Momentum Looks Mixed

LINK was trading around $13.07 on September 7, up about 7.1% on the day after moving between roughly $12.12 and $13.32. The token has also rebounded sharply from June and July lows near $7 to $8.

Short-term technical signals point in two directions at once. The MACD line remained above its signal line, which still supports positive momentum, but the smaller gap between the two suggests the recent rally may be losing speed.

  • MACD line near 0.7841, above the signal line near 0.7069
  • Positive histogram around 0.0771
  • RSI near 72.47, above its moving average of roughly 67.71
  • RSI level in overbought territory, though that does not automatically mean a reversal is coming

Holding the $12 to $13 area would keep the short-term rebound intact. A break below that band could weaken the setup, while a move above recent highs would extend the recovery. There is no direct proof that the whale’s Coinbase deposit caused any specific price move, since LINK is also being shaped by broader market forces.

Chainlink’s Network Expansion Keeps Moving Forward

The wallet activity sits against a backdrop of continued growth in Chainlink’s infrastructure. Its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, or CCIP, handled $4.9 billion in volume in the second quarter, up 353% year over year, according to figures cited by Standard Chartered.

The same estimate suggested Chainlink helps secure more than $110 billion in value through its oracle feeds and cross-chain services. That figure is a projection, not a guaranteed outcome.

Recent integrations have included:

  • Aave, which adopted CCIP as its default system for cross-chain deposits, withdrawals, governance, and GHO transfers
  • BitGo, which made CCIP the exclusive cross-chain provider for Wrapped Bitcoin, moving its $7.3 billion WBTC ecosystem away from LayerZero and lifting publicly announced CCIP migrations to about $14.6 billion
  • A stablecoin foreign-exchange settlement trial involving more than 50 banks and designed to combine blockchain settlement with Swift and ISO 20022 messaging for atomic payment-versus-payment transactions
  • A partnership with Bottomline Technologies that connects blockchain payment tools to infrastructure used by 600 banks

These developments may support long-term demand for Chainlink services, although the actual effect on LINK’s price will depend on product design, fee structures, and token utility. They do not erase the short-term pressure that a large exchange deposit can create.

What Traders Will Be Watching Next

Future moves from the same wallet should provide the clearest signal. More deposits would add to the supply already sitting on Coinbase, while a transfer back to a private address would point to continued holding or internal reshuffling instead of a clean exit.

For now, the blockchain shows that 620,420 LINK moved from the identified address to Coinbase. Saying the wallet definitively sold $7.6 million worth of LINK would go beyond what the available data can support.
